Sochi darling Gracie Gold makes transition to coaching during backdrop of PyeongChang Games
With the backdrop of the PyeongChang Games under way, former Olympian and two-time U.S. champion figure skater Gracie Gold has announced her career transition to coaching.
Gold, who finished in fourth place individually and won a bronze medal in the team competition for Team USA at the Sochi Games in 2014, stepped away from competitive skating last year.
The 22-year-old cut short her chance to compete in PyeongChang to seek help for depression, anxiety and an eating disorder.
“It breaks my heart to withdraw from the 2018 U.S. championships,” Gold said in November. “I am still undergoing treatment for depression, anxiety and an eating disorder. I have not had adequate training time in order to perform at the level at which I want to. It pains me to not compete in this Olympic season, but I know it’s for the best.”
She is joining the Ice Den in Scottsdale, Arizona, at the home rink of the NHL’s Arizona Coyotes. She joins a staff that includes fellow Olympians Steven Cousins and Naomi Lang.
