New sobriety-friendly dance club opens in Salt Lake City

SALT LAKE CITY (ABC4) — Young college students looking for social nightlife will soon have a new place where they can shout and let it all out with a club-like experience only without alcohol.

A new 18-and-over dance club called SHOUT! will be opening in Salt Lake City on Friday, May 24.

The new hang-out spot is located in the heart of downtown Salt Lake City at 32 Exchange Place next-door to Twist Bar. It aims to give those under 21 or anyone looking for a sobriety-friendly location a place to hang out and get a night-life type social experience.

SHOUT! will have a dancefloor, lights and fog machines, a game area for card games, cornhole and a separate video gaming area complete with couches and big-screen TVs. Just because the club won’t be serving alcohol doesn’t mean there won’t be drinks. SHOUT! founder Roger Muir said the club will offer its own variety of mixed beverages with mocktails and dirty sodas.

“The only current options for creating new social relationships are in swiping apps or hopping bars,” said Muir. “Our guests have been begging for an in-person experience; a loud, happy, fun place to meet new friends, so we created it, but for me, adding fruity, sobriety-friendly drinks was the perfect finishing touch.”

The club is currently slated to be open only on Friday nights but will expand its hours as needed. Muir said SHOUT! will host regular themed nights including country, ballroom, Latino, 80s, beach, pride and more. The club will also host celebratory balls and galas for holidays such as Halloween, New Year’s Eve and Pioneer Day.

A grand opening for SHOUT! will be held on Friday, May 24 at 7:30 p.m. with a ribbon-cutting ceremony and a public tour of the grand ballroom and dance club. At 8 p.m., the new dance club will offer a free country swing and line dance before officially opening for its first Country Dance night at 9 p.m.

According to a press release, the opening night will have a $10 cover charge.
