Soap Box Derby rolling into Daybreak this weekend
SOUTH JORDAN, Utah (ABC4) — This weekend, Daybreak will be hosting its fourth annual Soap Box Derby, filled with creatively crafted cars and competitive spirit.
Join in on the fun Saturday, May 4, at Basin Park in South Jordan from 12 p.m. to 3 p.m.

In addition to the race, there will also be a pinewood derby track, a service project with Tiny Tim’s Foundation, food trucks and other car-themed activities.

According to LiveDAYBREAK, participants have made their cars either from official kits or scratch. They’ll be competing for the fastest and best-looking cars in their division, which are “Freestyle” and “Stock”.

Madeline Shaffer, the LiveDAYBREAK lifestyle director, said the event continues to grow each year and that racers come throughout the valley to participate.
Shaffer said some favorite cars in years past include an X-wing Starfighter and The Mystery Machine from Scooby-Doo. She added that one coming up this year is a giant Cozy Coupe modeled after Little Tikes.
“This event is unique in our community. We have car shows in the warmer months, but this event has created an opportunity for Daybreak residents to use their creativity and learn new skills. Attendees love to come together to watch or participate in this race,” Shaffer said.
