Snowmaking Resumes At West Viriginia's Largest Ski Resort
Snowshoe Mountain Resort, West Virginia's largest ski area, has resumed snowmaking.
The resort, acting fast, was taking advantage of a quick temperature dip before warmer conditions set to arrive this weekend. Highs in the 40s and 50s are possible on Saturday and Sunday, respectively.
Snowshoe has received some of the natural stuff, too. On Saturday, fresh flakes were spotted at the resort.
The resort plans to remain open until March 31st, weather and conditions permitting.
In the Instagram comments section of a recent post from Snowshoe, one skier wondered if the resort was noticing "a lack of snow for the rest of the season."
To that, Snowshoe responded, "Not on this mountain! March has been delivering in recent years."
Snowshoe has invested considerable capital in its snowmaking system. In 2018, the resort put nearly $4 million towards purchasing and upgrading snow guns, allowing them to cover more terrain earlier in the season.
The investment seems to be paying off. Last winter, after a spring storm, Snowshoe extended its operating season until April 2nd.
