Snowmaking Malfunction Causes Mudslide At Colorado Ski Resort

Last night -- the evening of September 7th -- a snowmaking system malfunction caused a mudslide at Telluride Ski Resort, Colorado.

The slide moved down the front hillside toward the Lift 7 base area. No one was injured, while a few buildings were damaged in the Lift 7 base area.

Today, September 8th, Telluride shared an Instagram post providing preliminary details of the incident.

From the Instagram post caption:

"Last night, a failure in our snowmaking system resulted in a mudslide with debris going down the front hillside toward the base of the Lift 7 area. The system failure has been addressed, and clean-up is underway. Fortunately, no one was hurt. There was minor damage to a few buildings in the Lift 7 base area. The ski resort is handling all clean-up and is communicating with the HOAs of the damaged buildings."

All front-side access at Telluride is closed for now, including the Telluride Trail.

"We have a lot going on due to the remediation efforts and the presence of heavy machinery on See Forever for the construction of Giuseppe's. We will provide updates on when this area will reopen," the resort wrote in the caption of the Instagram post.
