Snowbird Hits Coveted 500 Inch Milestone Of Total Snowfall For The Season

Winter '23/'24 won't go down in the record books like last season, but the folks who regularly ski and ride Snowbird aren't complaining.

The resort passed the coveted milestone of 500 inches of total snowfall on the season with a three-inch overnight storm on Friday, March 29, 2024. Check out the announcement below.

Snowbird's neighbor, Alta Ski Area, is checking in with 556 total inches of snowfall this season, meaning both resorts have officially passed their reported seasonal snowfall averages.

The word "average" doesn't paint the picture accurately for skiers not familiar with Snowbird and Alta. An "average" season at these reports typically places them amongst the snowiest ski resorts in the entire world.

This year is no exception. Of all ski resorts in the United States, Alta ranks second and Snowbird ranks third in terms of total snowfall. They trail only Alyeska Resort, Alaska which is the heavy favorite each season to take the crown for snowiest ski resort.

Check out the video below of skier Eric Fabbri finding the goods at Snowbird earlier this week. Conditions look incredible.

Snowbird is expected to blast past the 500-inch mark with multiple storms forecasted over the next 10 days. According to NOAA, Snowbird could see an additional 30 inches of snow through Sunday, March 31st, 2024.

It might officially be spring, but Snowbird is experiencing mid-winter conditions. Not too shabby for the end of March.

If you're planning on driving up Little Cottonwood or Big Cottonwood Canyons this weekend, please ensure that your vehicle meets the necessary guidelines for winter travel. And no, "all-season tires" are not the same as winter/snow tires.
