SNL Gave the Downton Abbey Movie a New, More Honest Trailer

Saturday Night Live officially returned to NBC with its 45th season last night, September 29—and as always, it was nothing short of hilarious. Fans were introduced to two new cast members, Chloe Fineman and Bowen Yang, and the show featured a number of funny skits, including a spoof about the Downton Abbey movie.

The long-running sketch comedy show poked fun at the British period drama’s series by featuring many of the cast members portraying the Crawleys and their servants as they get ready for a big royal visit. In the mock trailer, everyone is seen panicking over how clean the castle needs to be even though they have a year-and-a-half to prepare.

"The beloved television show is now a feature film...and it's mostly about cleaning," the voiceover says.

The parody also features funny reviews, including, “Were the stakes in the show always this low?”

“I absolutely love this film—All Moms."

Then, at the very end, it's revealed the trailer is actually a fake ad for the new Joker movie.

Despite a seemingly squeaky clean storyline, the Downton Abbey movie has been incredibly positively received. And the film has been topping box offices — guess all those moms out there are onto something.
