Star Trek: Discovery was the series that relaunched the Star Trek franchise after the last series, Star Trek: Enterprise premiered over a decade earlier in 2001. Originally on CBS All Access (now Paramount+), the series brought in a record number of subscribers to the streamer. Now in its fifth and final season, Star Trek: Discovery is ready for its swan song.

Here's everything we know about the final season of Star Trek: Discovery.

When does Star Trek: Discovery take place?

The first season of Star Trek: Discovery begins about 10 years before events of the original Star Trek series.

What happened in previous seasons of Star Trek: Discovery?

The better question might be what hasn't happened to the crew of Discovery? In the show's inception, Commander Michael Burnham (Sonequa Martin-Green) has been court martialed, stripped of her rank and reassigned to the U.S.S. Discovery, a science vessel with a "spore drive." They find themselves in a mirror universe with their doppelgangers, but eventually make their way back home. Season 2 found the crew investigating mysterious signals and something (or someone) called the "Red Angel." The season ends with Discovery traveling more than 900 years into the future where the Federation seems to be in shambles. The crew investigates the "Burn," a cataclysmic event during Season 3. By season's end, Burnham is promoted to captain of the Discovery.

In Season 4, the crew helps to rebuild the Federation as they investigate the cause of related destruction across the galaxy.

When is the Star Trek: Discovery Season 5 premiere date?

The final season of Star Trek: Discovery will premiere in April 2024 though an exact date has yet to be announced. It will likely premiere and air on Thursdays, as it has in previous seasons.

Will there be a Season 6 of Star Trek: Discovery?

Unfortunately, no. Paramount+ previously announced that Season 5 of Star Trek: Discovery would be its final season.

What storylines will they explore in the final season of Star Trek: Discovery?

The fifth and final season will find Captain Burnham and the crew of the U.S.S. Discovery uncovering a mystery that will send them on an epic adventure across the galaxy to find an ancient power whose very existence has been deliberately hidden for centuries. But there are others on the hunt as well … dangerous foes who are desperate to claim the prize for themselves and will stop at nothing to get it.
