Sneak a Peek at the Most Gorgeous Backyard Oasis

If you aren't quite ready to give up warm weather and alfresco living, feast your eyes on the most gorgeous backyard retreat. Crafted by Molly Wood Garden Design, it has everything from glam poolside lounging spots, to a fire pit just begging for wine and s'mores and a blue door that definitely makes an entrance. Full tour and lots of Summer yearning captured by Lane Dittoeright this way.

Can you share with us a little bit about the owners? The owners are a really sweet and stylish couple with an active, young son. They wanted to create more useable outdoor space to enjoy and entertain with friends and family. The wife has been shopping at my store, Molly Wood Garden Design in Costa Mesa, for a while now - so we knew our styles would jive.

What was the goal for this project? Our goal for this project was to blur the lines from inside to out - to live with the doors open and really be able to enjoy the indoor/outdoor living year-round, as we are lucky enough to do in Southern California.

They also wanted to add a pool, as well as a dining area, cozy fire pit, and a pool house with a TV and BBQ. It was a big project and we are so happy with how it turned out.

Do you have a favorite part of the project?I love the fountain with gravel and plants in the entry - when you come through the entry gates it gives the feeling that you’ve entered into a special space. I also love the herringbone brick detail.

How would you describe the style/aesthetic of this outdoor space?I use #CaliforniaGarden with all my projects. We live in such a dreamy state, why would we aspire to be anything else? In this garden we were going for a bit of a Napa vibe, loose and natural with a classic foundation.

We had a dream team on this project! The homeowners have worked with interior designer Mindy Gayer for years and she helped develop their home and exterior details, it was fun to collaborate with her. The builders were Christiano Homes, a fabulous local builder.

I brought in wicker chairs from Sika-Design, a Danish line I love for both inside and out. Mindy brought in the umbrella from Serena & Lily that really sets the “relaxing poolside” vibe.
