When Snapchat Stories were introduced back in October of 2013, it changed the way we document our lives on social media. And after Stories gained significant success for Snapchat, it didn't take long for Instagram and Facebook to adapt the Stories concept and create their own versions of the popular social media tool.

But if you're thinking that Snapchat was at all threatened by the other Stories creations, think again. On Tuesday, Snapchat unveiled an awesome new update to the app, and introduced its World Lenses feature. And though the lens concept launched a year and a half ago, they have since received an upgrade with new rear-view camera 3D experiences. Now instead of just being able to interact with the Snapchat animations, the lens will make it seem like the animations are appearing in real life. And though the new update isn't exactly a new camera, it is changing how we can use our camera phones to interact with a view the world around us.

To use the new feature, open your Snapchat camera and place the camera on rear facing mode (which may be a change for those who are fans of the Snapchat selfie filters), and tap the camera screen. You will see a series of different filters that you can use to take fun selfies with, but also to enhance your reality. You can either plant an array of flowers around your desk, place a friend underneath a large rainbow, turn your room into a disco with dancing mushrooms (yes, that's a real option) or somehow incorporate A floating "OMG" into your daily scene. And unlike past lenses, each filter now has multiple options for the user to try out. To reveal different options, all you have to do is continue to tap the screen and your rainbow will turn into either a giant popsicle or a coffee mug.

Now we know what the Snapchat squad has been up to for the past few months. Only time will tell what big feature Snapchat will roll out next.
