This Smart Sonic Toothbrush Changed the Way I Brush My Teeth

And the brand will send you free replacement brush heads for life, so it can save money in the long run too.

For as long as I can remember, I’ve always dreaded going to the dentist. No matter how well I brush and floss, I always seem to have to a new cavity every time I visit. After finding out I had two during my last appointment, my dentist and I decided my regular toothbrush just wasn’t cutting it anymore and that it might be time to make the switch to an electric toothbrush.

Coincidentally, around that time, I was offered the chance to try the new Oclean One Smart Sonic Toothbrush, and I jumped at the chance. The high-tech toothbrush not only cleans your teeth, but it also connects to your smartphone to track your daily brushing performance.

You can choose between the toothbrush’s pre-set brushing modes or use the app to create a custom plan that’s unique to your individual oral health needs. I created my own that focused more on the areas my dentist recommended—and was addicted to following that plan after just one use. With this toothbrush, my teeth not only felt cleaner than normal, but they also looked brighter and whiter. This is all thanks to the sonic motor that produces 42,000 brush strokes per minute which, according to the brand, helps remove 300 percent more plaque than the average manual toothbrush.

The app not only showed me how long I brushed for, but it also analyzed what areas I covered best and how much pressure I used, which was extremely helpful. The one downside is that you have to open the app on your phone before you start brushing in order to track your habits. So in the mornings and nights that I forgot to bring my phone to the bathroom, my performance wasn’t recorded.

Unlike other electric toothbrushes that can be bulky and take up a lot of counter space, the Oclean One weighs just 5.3 ounces, and its magnetic charging pad is incredibly compact. It also comes with its own case and lasts for up to 60 days off a single charge—making it a great option to travel with. But my favorite part of the smart toothbrush is probably the fact that you can earn points on the app for brushing records and daily check-ins. (Yes, this is a gamified toothbrush, but it totally worked on me.) Once you’ve reached a certain amount of points, the brand will send you new brush heads for free so you never have to worry about paying for upkeep.

Priced at $75, the high-tech sonic toothbrush falls in the mid-range price point for electric toothbrushes. But considering the fact that I’ll never have to buy replacement brush heads again—and that I’m actually looking forward to going to the dentist to show off my new brushing skills—I consider the toothbrush a complete steal.
