Slobber Lager launched in joint effort by Humane Pennsylvania and Pagoda City Brewing Co.

May 10—Reading-based Pagoda City Brewing Co., formerly operating as Chatty Monks, announced it launched Spike & Tilly's Slobber Lager last month.

It is a joint effort with Humane Pennsylvania, and the cans feature the animal welfare organization's mascots Spike and Tilly.

A portion of the lager can sales will be donated to Humane PA.

"It's one of our recipes we've already produced, and we're doing it to pretty much highlight the promotion and the donation part of it," said Ryan Berkis, Pagoda City Brewing marketing director. "We're basically private-labeling it for them."

Right now, it is a limited edition brew, but that may change.

"We're looking to have this most of the year," Berkis said. "I would say you can definitely bet on the warmer months, anytime spring through the fall. I do intend for the next year that it is a full-time brand."

The lager has a 4.6% alcohol by volume, or ABV.

The 12-ounce cans are available at Pagoda City Brewhouse Taproom & Lounge, 101 N. Carroll St.; Chatty Monks Pub, 610 Penn Ave., West Reading; and the Chatty Monks stand at the Boscov's Fairgrounds Farmers Market, 2934 N. Fifth Street Highway, Muhlenberg Township.

It also was sold May 4 at Humane PA's Walk for the Animals and will be featured at the Aug. 3 Mini Pints for Pups at Pagoda City Brewhouse.

"Our main focus with this is to make it a sustainable brand," he said. "We got it out and now we're really focusing on pushing it. The sales have been good for the three events we've had it at, but now we expect to really — once it catches on and people understand it a little better — kind of grow in the next couple months here."
