Skydance Animation Strikes Deal with Netflix, Releasing Spellbound in 2024

Skydance Animation has found a new home after ending its distribution deal with Apple Studios.

Run by John Lasseter, Skydance will now release its animated movies exclusively on Netflix in a multi-year deal that has the studio's current slate also moving over to Netflix.

Previously set to release on Apple, the first film in the deal (Spellbound) will now land on Netflix in 2024.

Starring Rachel Zegler, Nicole Kidman, Javier Bardem, John Lithgow, Tituss Burgess, Jennifer Lewis, and Nathan Lane, Spellbound follows the adventures of Ellian, the tenacious princess who must go on a daring quest to save her family and kingdom after a mysterious spell transforms her parents, the King and Queen of Lumbria, into monsters. The film is also reported to feature original songs from Alan Menken with lyrics by Glenn Slater.

Skydance will continue its live-action films and series partnership with Apple, which includes films from Mark Wahlberg and Anya Taylor-Joy.
