Earlier this week the U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) announced that Skippy Foods, LLC is recalling 9,353 cases of peanut butter due to "the possibility that a limited number of jars may contain a small fragment of stainless steel from a piece of manufacturing equipment."

The voluntary food recall includes limited jars of Skippy Reduced Fat Creamy Peanut Butter (40 oz and 40 oz two-pack), Skippy Reduced Fat Chunky Peanut Butter (16.3 oz), and Skippy Creamy Peanut Butter Blended with Plant Protein (14 oz) with a "best if used by" date of early May 2023. You can find the coded date on top of the lid of every jar of peanut butter and check the UPC numbers on the barcode of the label to find out whether you purchased an affected jar, according to a statement from the brand. The products subject to recall action are listed below. (Related: Fitbit Recalls 1.7 Million Ionic Smartwatches Due to Overheating and Burning)

The affected products were shipped to 18 states, including California, Florida, Hawaii, Illinois, New Jersey, and New York. While there have been no consumer complaints, all retailers that received the affected product have been properly notified, according to a press release from Hormel Foods (Skippy's manufacturer). Additionally, no other sizes, varieties, or other packaging configurations of the peanut butter are included in this recall, according to the FDA. In its statement, Skippy details a step-by-step guide on how you can figure out if you have an affected jar. If you do find that you own a peanut butter jar that's a part of the recall, keep it out of your next smoothie or snack. The FDA recommends returning it to the retailer for an exchange.
