Legendary alpine racer Mikaela Shiffrin was nominated for multiple prestigious ESPY Awards earlier this year. If she accrues enough votes, she could win both the "Best Record-Breaking Performance" title and "Best Athlete, Women's Sports."

These are her candid thoughts on the nominations. Watch below.

While I wouldn't say I relate to Mikaela here (the last time I won an award was during a beer league Mario Kart tournament -- small fry stuff compared to Mikaela's accomplishments), I do understand the mix of emotions she's feeling.

Alpine racing is huge, but it doesn't have the reach of the sports Mikaela's fellow nominees participate in. In the "Best Record-Breaking Performance" category, she's nominated alongside world-famous athletes Lebron James, Max Verstappen, and Novak Djokovic.

See, if you're a skier, you know who Mikaela Shiffrin is. But you don't need to be a skier to recognize the names Lebron James and Max Verstappen. And given that the broader public votes on who wins among the nominees in a category, the deeper fanbases of the NBA and Formula 1 will probably beat out alpine racing aficionados through sheer volume. That's perhaps a difficult reality to tangle with for Mikaela.

Despite the odds, though, I hope Mikaela wins in one of her two nominated categories. She officially became the winningest alpine racer of all time this past season -- a feat that deserves wider recognition.

However, even if she comes home empty-handed from the ESPYs, we skiing fans understand the weight of her accomplishments.

This Instagram comment under her post summed it up best: "You're the best alpine skier of all time. Ever. You've already won dear. You have far surpassed the Espys."

Nailed it. Mikaela already won. Any new accolades, like an ESPY, are just part of her victory lap.
