Skiers Glimpse Total Eclipse At Jay Peak Resort, Vermont

A glorious planetary phenomenon came to Jay Peak Resort, Vermont, today in the form of a total Solar Eclipse.

In a video shared by the resort on social media, crowds of skiers perched atop the mountain as the sky darkened.

Before the eclipse, Jay Peak planned a party with live music and an altered lift schedule (the resort suspended lift operations during the eclipse). Jay Peak said it had prime eclipse-viewing real estate, noting that it was "Closer [to the path of totality] than any major ski area in the United States."

The path of totality—in reference to solar eclipses—refers to the shadow created by the moon as it obscures the sun, briefly darkening the skies to appear as if it's dawn or dusk. This shadow and its dramatic effects could only be seen in certain parts of North America today, including Jay Peak.

At Jay Peak, Pink Talking Fish performed Pink Floyd's The Dark Side of the Moon before the eclipse—setting the mood—followed by another post-eclipse set.

Now, I may be biased—you're reading POWDER, after all—but I can think of few better places to watch the eclipse than a ski resort. It might be better seen from an airplane, but, to me, the idea of ripping some turns after being infused with a little astrological magic can't be beat.
