Skier Shares Spectacular Journey Of Skiing From The Summit Of A Colorado 14'er

Looking for a little spring skiing inspiration?

Watch as skier Rohit Shrestha navigates their way down Colorado's Gray's Peak.

Standing at 14,275 feet tall, Gray's Peak is a member of Colorado's illustrious 14'er club.

14'ers are, you guessed it, peaks taller than 14,000 feet. There are 58 14'ers in Colorado, more than any other state in the U.S.

Topping these peaks is often challenging, requiring strong fitness and extensive backcountry knowledge. To rachet the difficulty higher, some ski mountaineers endeavor to ski every 14'er in Colorado, a unique backcountry title only held by a few enterprising athletes.

Gray's Peak is the 9th tallest 14'er in Colorado. Despite its imposing height, though, the mountain isn't considered particularly technical. Hikers can navigate to the Peak without specialized gear in warmer months; provided there's no snow. And 14ers.com, a website dedicated to documenting Colorado's 14ers, considers Gray's Peak an "intermediate" descent.

But "intermediate" doesn't necessarily translate to easy. While rockfall potential and crevasse risks are essentially zero on Gray's Peak, it's still alpine terrain, meaning avalanche risk is ever-present.

And there's the whole fitness thing. No matter how good at skiing you are, schlepping your way up a 14,000-foot peak will kick your butt if you don't get in shape first.

Although I imagine to those skiing 14ers this spring, the grind is paid off readily in the form of stellar views and late-season corn snow turns.
