Skier Makes The Most Of Mad River Glen's Closing Day

Ski The East, everyone's--okay, one coast's--favorite ski company, posted footage of a skier with gusto making the most of Mad River Glen's closing day.

Their caption included a joke: "East Coast ski facts: Grass is faster than snow. Enjoy the sounds of Spring at Mad River closing day." See below.

There are so many questions here (although none of them include "why", because it's the East Coast, and you just ski what you can. (Plus, Mad River Glen's slogan is literally "ski it if you can." And this man could.)

The first question is are these his rock skis, or his dirt skis? And is there a difference?

Getting dirt in your bases is definitely not a positive thing, but on the other hand, it's not causing core-shots directly.

It's like that scene from Scott Gaffney's film "1999" where Dr. Robb Gaffney concludes that none other than Shane McConkey is "a pioneer of the North American stream-skiing movement."

"He was putting up some rowdy stream lines."

Cut to some clips of McConkey and Gaffney stream skiing to an epic soundtrack, with beacons and shovels in their backpacks, hop-turning and sending it straight down waterfalls.

Cue the funniest joke of all time: Dr. Robb Gaffney is asked if he still skis in rivers. He shakes his head. "I quit a couple years ago. I'm an ex-stream skier."

It somehow still looks better than skiing dirt at MRG, though.

Whether you have river skis, dirt skis, water skis, or something else, it's clear skiers can't avoid picking lines and descending something--anything--for long.
