Ski Resort “Doubles” Parking Fees For ‘23/‘24 Season

Magic Mountain, Vermont, has added its two cents to the ongoing discourse around parking reservations at major ski resorts throughout North America.

It's contribution? A silly take on the situation in the form of a well-conceived joke.

Tap in below.

From the caption:

"Parking Policy Update: due to higher insurance rates, energy, flood damage, etc., Magic will be "doubling its parking fees this year as follows:

- Lot A Preferred Parking: $0

- Lot B Nearby Parking: 0 cents

- Lot C Van-served Parking: Free

- Season Pass Holder parking: Zilch

- Indy Pass Holder parking: Nada

- Day Ticket parking: Bupkis

Apologies for the complicated parking fee structure but it's best to be upfront about trying to squeeze nothing more out of you for parking.

I can see where Magic's coming from, and I got a kick out of their satirical post. No one -- and this probably includes resort operators -- likes to deal with parking reservation systems, making this joke land amongst most skiers.

This much is known -- skiing is best enjoyed when hassle's kept to a minimum. In a perfect world, ski resorts would never be crowded (while somehow staying in the green), and the lots would be mostly empty.

But in several corners of the country, that dream -- of vacant powder days and solitude -- is mostly gone unless you're willing to ditch the lifts and hit the backcountry.

So, to play devil's advocate, I recognize that at some resorts, particularly those with ever-increasing skier numbers, parking reservations and similar measures are a necessary evil. Or, at the very least, a step toward addressing a complicated challenge.

If that sounds like a bunch of hooey to you, and you want to ski whenever you d*mn well please, that's great and plenty fair -- Magic Mountain, with its "doubled" parking fees, has you covered.
