Ski Brand Honors 55-Year-Old Freestyle Skier Who Can Still Backflip

Yesterday, August 31st, snowsports brand 1000 Skis shared an Instagram post honoring Björn Åberg, a 55-year-old freestyler skier.

If anything, this post is a reminder that age should never prevent you from skiing how you'd like, but it's also a celebration of a person everyone at 1000 Skis adores.

See it below.

Here's Aberg's story, per 1000 Skis:

"A love shower to our man @bjorn.o.aberg ❤️❤️❤️ We first met him in Aspen CO for XGames 2020. On that day @thepeyben and @skimanguy inspired him to hit his first rails. Bjorn competed in Mogul Olympics for Sweden in 1992. He was then some what of a low key skier for about 18 years until he discovered freeskiing. This ignited a new flame within Bjorn. A flame that would spread passion among his surroundings. It’s truly inspiring to see a 55-year old freeskier absolutely thriving!! He’s been supporting us like no one else! He runs free demos in the CO area, so hit him up if you want to try some 1000’s. From the bottom of our hearts, THANK YOU Björn!"

Åberg, as noted above, competed for Sweden in the 1992 Olympics, putting down a blistering run with a classic "double daffy." See it below.

Nearly 30 years later, he crossed paths with Magnus Granér and Pär "Peyben" Hägglund of 1000 Skis at X-Games 2020, where the duo encouraged Åberg to hit his first rail in the terrain park.

Åberg, who now helps 1000 Skis run gear demos in the Colorado area, is arguably one of the best freestyle skiers in his age bracket. But that phrase -- "age bracket" -- might sell Åberg and what he does short; he's just a great skier regardless of age.

The proof is in the pudding.

I know I can't leave you without delivering on what likely made you click this article in the first place: Åberg's backflip at 55 years old. Here it is.

Folks, after watching this, I'm now more convinced that getting older -- provided you have a little luck on your side -- is a choice.

Keep shredding Björn!
