Skechers’ Pier to Pier Friendship Walk is returning to California for its 2023 edition.

The highly anticipated event is hosted each year by the sneaker brand and nonprofit Friendship Foundation, which raises funds for young children with special education and special needs — particularly peer mentorship and social activities outside of school. In 2023, the occasion will be held between two piers near the Pacific Ocean, allowing families, friends and anyone who wants to rally for the cause.

Who started the Pier to Pier Friendship Walk event?

The Pier to Pier Friendship Walk was launched by the Skechers Foundation in 2010, the same year that the Foundation itself was founded by Michael Greenberg — president of Skechers — and his family. At its core, the event ultimately aims to support and create a community for the aforementioned children in need.

Where will the 2023 Pier to Pier Friendship Walk take place?

This year’s Friendship Walk will be held from Manhattan Beach Pier to Hermosa Beach Pier in Southern California. The event will be held throughout the day, with additional support provided by the Kinecta Federal Credit Union.

How can I sign up for this year’s Friendship Walk event?

Currently, those interested in walking in the Friendship Walk can register for the event on the Friendship Foundation’s website. Donations of any amount are welcome, which will go towards the Friendship Foundation Walk Team’s current $10,000 goal.

How much did the 2022 Pier to Pier Friendship Walk raise?

In 2022, the event broke its all-time record for most funds raised with $3.1 million in donations, as seen on Skechers’ website. In 2021, the event raised over $2.6 million for the cause, as well.

“Our community is phenomenal. The way they’ve helped our donations reach new highs and achieve a $1 million milestone for the Friendship Foundation, their love for our kids has no bounds,” Greenberg said in 2022. “Since the beginning, we’ve believed that this Walk can transform how our children see themselves and their abilities, and it’s done just that—from the confidence they’ve built through Friendship Foundation’s network of school clubs and online programs, to the investment we’re making in their future at our upcoming Friendship Campus.”
