In 1958, a number of young stars—including Frank Sinatra, Sammy Davis Jr., and Dean Martin—gathered in the Grand Ballroom of the Beverly Hilton for a rather modest first Grammys ceremony. Since then, the award show has become the biggest institution in modern music, honoring, and often creating, some of the most iconic artists in contemporary music.
