From ‘Sister, Sister’ to ‘Girlfriends:’ Netflix Just Announced It’s Adding 7 Iconic Black Shows in August
“I am beyond humbled and honored at how much the fans continue to ride hard for this show, years later, and how it’s made a huge impact on the culture,” the stars said in the video. “These shows changed the face of television as we know it.”
Netflix has acquired the rights to Sister, Sister, Girlfriends, Moesha, One on One, Half & Half, The Parkers and The Game. This partnership is part of Netflix’s Strong Black Lead category which strives to highlight Black content and share all aspects of the Black experience with viewers. Content Acquisition Manager Bradley Edwards and Strong Black Lead Manager Jasmyn Lawson dedicated this decision to the fans that have been waiting for any streaming service to bring back these classic ‘90s and early 2000s shows.
“The goal of Strong Black Lead is to celebrate and lift up Black Hollywood. These trailblazing shows are a huge part of that story. From the classic clown funeral episode of The Parkers to Moesha’s mind-tripping meet-up with Brandy, we’re thrilled that our members can now enjoy these amazing classics,” they said in a statement.
