The changing weather brings on allergies for many people. And when stuffy noses arise, many people turn to over-the-counter sinus sprays. Unfortunately, Biomic Sciences has issued a recall on several of their products, including ION Sinus Support, ION Biome Sinus and Restor Sinus Spray due to possibly life-threatening contamination. Find all of the details below.

ION Sinus Sprays recalled

The U.S. Food and Drug Administration recently discovered microbial contamination in Biomic Sciences' ION Sinus Support, ION Biome Sinus, and Restore Sinus Spray, prompting an immediate recall on these sinus products for the safety of consumers due to potential health risks.

Contaminants in the tested drops include Microbacterium sp., Fictibacillus sp., Bacillus sp., (primarily B. malikii), and Paenibacillus sp. According to the FDA, use of these contaminated products "could potentially result in severe or life-threatening adverse events such as bacteremia or fungemia, invasive bacterial or fungal rhinosinusitis, or disseminated fungal infection." Yikes!

The recalled products, listed below, include boxes of one or two nasal rinse spray dispensers sold across the United States both in stores and online:

  • ION Sinus Support - sold between September 2021 and September 20, 2023.

  • ION Biome Sinus - sold between September 2019 and September 2021.

  • Restore Sinus Spray - sold between June 2017 and September 2019.

If you have one of these products, you should take a photo of the lot number (or write it down), dispose of the product, and contact Biomic Sciences for a refund by calling 1-844-715-0113 or emailing sinusrecall@intelligenceofnature.com. You will need to provide the lot number for a refund.

Luckily, there have not been any reported illnesses following this recall. However, it's always important to pay attention to recalls and follow safety and health guidelines for the wellbeing of you and your family. The FDA says that people who have recently undergone nasal or sinus surgery are most at risk.

She finds is dedicated to keeping consumers informed about recent recalls. Other recalled products include mattresses from Costco and several foods that have potentially been contaminated with listeria.
