Netflix’s new three-part, true crime docuseries, Sins of Our Mother, details the disturbing story of how devout Mormon Lori Vallow Daybell allegedly killed two of her children after deciding that they were “zombies.”

The two Vallow kids, aged seven and 17, went missing in September of 2019, and Lori and her new husband, Chad Daybell, were later arrested and sent to prison after the children's bodies were found in the yard of Chad's Idaho home, per local news station KHON2 in Hawaii. The couple has pleaded not guilty to the charges.

Lori’s only living son, Colby Ryan, is featured in the documentary, which includes audio footage of Colby talking to his mom in prison about her alleged crimes.

But who is Colby Ryan and where is he now? Here’s what you need to know.

Who is Colby Ryan?

Colby is Lori Vallow’s only living soon. Colby's two younger siblings—Tylee and JJ—were allegedly killed by their mother, and Colby appears in Sins of Our Mother to talk about his upbringing and experience with Lori.

How old is Colby now?

Colby is 26, according to KKTV.

Does he have any kids?

According to his YouTube channel, Colby has two daughters—Ryley and Ava. It's unclear how old they are right now.

Colby has written a book about his experience.

Colby's book, titled, The God Over Odds, was published in April of 2022, just a few months before the docuseries was set to air.

“Redeemed, healed, and delivered, this is Colby Ryan’s testimony of how God got him through a life of trauma, abuse, murder, and loss,” the description on Amazon reads. “A journey from, ‘son of cult mom Lori Vallow-Daybell,’ to Man of God. Colby’s biggest prayer in life is that God will use this story for his good, God’s glory, and to bring others to him. He wants to challenge you to take a look at your life and see what God has pulled you through.”

He's also done lots of media interviews to help with the case.

Colby has been pretty open about the tragedy, including participating in the docuseries.

“It hurts so much. And on top of that, we have a million questions," Colby said on an episode of Dateline, per Deseret News. "So you can’t call your own mom. You can’t go to your house—or her house—and see your siblings. You’re just out in the cold.”

Colby’s family also has a YouTube show.

Colby's YouTube show, which is called Life with the Ryan’s, has nearly 7,000 subscribers. The family has posted several dozens of videos.

“We love Jesus and we know he is using our lives and testimonies to help others, we will never be shy about it!” the channel's "About" section reads.

“We love that you’re here and we pray you decide to stick around, we love this community. We know a lot of people are here because of the case involving Colbys family, but that is not what this channel is about," the bio continues. "We love God and will use this channel to glorify him, and we also love transparently sharing our lives and how we are getting through things and having fun as a family.”

Colby also appears to be an ambassador for an energy drink and muscle recovery spray called Bucked Up.

Where is he now?

Colby was arrested in early September in Mesa, Arizona, right before the show dropped on Netflix, for "two counts of sex crimes," according to KTVB news station. The charges were later dropped.

According to police documents obtained by AZ Family 3TV, Colby went to a woman’s house (the woman is not named but is later identified as his estranged wife), the two watched TV, and started kissing.

She reportedly said, “stop, this isn’t a good idea,” and “I don’t want to do this,” according to court documents, and she claims he sexually assaulted her as she continued to plead for him to stop. Afterward, the documents say, the woman locked herself in her room and Colby started crying and then left.

The next morning, the woman recorded a conversation between herself and Colby where he reportedly admitted to raping her. She shared that recording with police, who arrested Colby. He was booked on two counts of sexual assault and his bond was set at $10,000, AZ Family says.

As part of the conditions of his release, Colby will not be allowed to initiate contact with the alleged victim or the arresting officers, NBC reported.
