Singer Tinashe Just Dropped a Bold New Video

When it comes to her music career, Tinashe Jorgensen Kachingwe— known mononymously as Tinashe—is always down for a reinvention.

In late 2021, she independently released her fifth studio album, 333, and in early February, announced a deluxe release dropping (coincidentally) on March 3, that features four new songs. On Monday, the singer released the video for Naturally, a bold (and bloody) bop that has fans swooning.

The 29-year-old has had her sights set on a career in entertainment since she was a child. By the time she was 16-years-old, she was already on tour with Justin Bieber, and her IMDB wasn't looking too bad either. The songstress is a quadruple threat: songwriter, dancer, record producer, and actress. Since releasing her debut album Aquarius (2014), Tinashe has proven that her music is not only chart-topping but also that she can perfectly fuse genres of alternative R&B, pop, and hip hop. We caught up with the artist and she revealed that there's one group in particular that she's been inspired by.

"I feel like I grew up in the Destiny's Child era when they were just dominating the entire world. And they provided a lot of inspiration for me, especially "The Writings On the Wall" album. That one made me want to be an independent woman, and just want to leave your man at home and go to the club," she says in her Badass Questionnaire in the video below.

But when it comes to her favorite '90s pop song, she's definitely a sucker for nostalgia.

"Hands down, 'Baby One More Time,' by the queen herself, Britney Spears, because that was my first album that I ever bought," she recalls. Tinashe also admits to geeking out when she got to work with Spears on "Slumber Party". And of course, Spears, along with Janet Jackson, and Sade, are among some of her favorite badass women.

Tinashe has also become a voice for the voiceless outside of her entertainment career. Over the last couple of years, she has spoken out in support of the Black Lives Matter movement, raised money for The Bail Project, and noted how activism had influenced her as an artist.

"It reminded me that there are people who believe in really good things and that there's good energy around you, if you can take the second to find it and collaborate with other beautiful souls," says.

She went on to explain how pivotal that energy is to her most recent work. "I think that that has inspired my work, because this new album is really focused on bringing that good energy and bringing people together and good vibes, and carrying that energy of empowerment and inspiration from the protest to my art is something that's really important," she says.
