While fans of The Vampire Diaries might wish for this franchise to live on always and forever, The CW has announced that Legacies, the latest installment set within the universe, will conclude on June 16.

This finale marks the end of the Mikaelsons, a dysfunctional family of ancient vampires who span across all three TV shows in the franchise: The Vampire Diaries, The Originals, and Legacies.

The episode is set to bring back Klaus Mikaelson, who is most notable in The Originals, the spin-off series centering around the world's oldest vamps as they reside in a supernatural community in modern-day New Orleans.

In honor of the king's return, I'm ranking the most memorable characters in The Originals from best to worst.

1.Klaus Mikaelson

The CW / Via tenor.com

Let us start with the OG Originals as they are the heart and soul of this series. The legend that is Klaus Mikaelson comes in first, as his tortured spirit, questionable ethics, and pure devotion to his family make him an interesting character. He's the worst but also the best and he reigns as king at the top of this list.

2.Rebekah Mikaelson

The CW / Via tenor.com

As the sole sister of the Mikaelsons for a time, Rebekah has to deal with literal centuries of overdramatic vampire brothers. She spends most of the series being 100% done, but will also go to great lengths for her siblings. She just wants to lead a normal life and have a family. Leave her alone! When she's not stashed away in a coffin, she's a total boss.

3.Elijah Mikaelson

The CW / Via giphy.com

What is Elijah Mikaelson if not an absolute treasure? He may be a monster, but he's also got the best manners, the sweetest soul, and is always putting others before himself. Out of the three primary siblings, he's ranking third because his amnesia stint was way too much to handle.

4.Vincent Griffith

The CW / Via tenor.com

Don't be sleeping on Vincent in this show — he pretty much keeps the French Quarter running. This poor man just wants to put magic behind him and go lead a normal life, but is everyone's go-to guy. He catches a break at the very end of the series but first spends multiple seasons saving the day with his spells.

5.Hayley Marshall

The CW / Via tenor.com

Hayley wins the mom-of-the-year award for all of the sacrifices she makes for her daughter, Hope. In a world of insane magical creatures, she does her best to protect her child, even when it costs her own happiness. This Wolf Queen has been through the wringer but is one of the most well-intentioned characters.

6.Jackson Kenner

The CW / Via tenor.com

Jackson was quite literally too pure for this world. As Hayley's betrothed werewolf beaux, he is always supportive of his partner, even when things aren't fair to him. He's one of the few characters who has no ulterior motive and his death was absolutely tragic. Jackson deserved more.

7.Keelin Malraux

The CW / Via tenor.com

Keelin may just be the most sensible and normal character in this series. She is a doctor who looks at things through the lens of science (a welcome change after witnessing so much voodoo) and becomes a solid voice of reason for Freya who is in desperate need of some witch-life balance.

8.Marcel Gerard

The CW / Via tenor.com

As an honorary Mikaelson, Marcel has plenty of ups and downs with each of the siblings. He is pretty much always vying for Klaus' title as king of the French Quarter but it's hard to blame him after all that he has been through. At the end of the day, he is an essential part of the Mikaelson family.

9.Freya Mikaelson

The CW / Via tenor.com

Freya is probably the most devoted sibling of the crew. She takes her role as big sister seriously and spends literally every episode concocting a magical spell to protect the family (I was tired just watching this). It takes her a while to learn the art of self-care, but in the end, she is able to have the happy ending she deserves.

10.Hope Mikaelson

The CW / Via tenor.com

As the Miracle Baby from season one, The Originals spans throughout Hope's childhood (where Legacies picks up during her young adulthood). The youngest Mikaelson has a lot to live up to and consistently feels the weight of her family's expectations. Her teenage years cause a lot of magical mischief but her powers also save an entire city from destruction.

11.Josh Rosza

The CW / Via tenor.com

As Marcel's right-hand man, Josh gets pulled into all sorts of drama. He seems like a really low-key guy who just wants to enjoy a peaceful immortal life, but never really has the option since his best friend and his boyfriend are killed. He is loyal and tries his best to do the right thing.

12.Kol Mikaelson

The CW / Via tenor.com

As the token free spirit of the family, Kol can't always be trusted to uphold the Mikaelson vow of "always and forever". On one hand, he sets pretty good boundaries with his super dramatic siblings, but on the other hand, he's also kind of wishy-washy. Plus, he won't stop talking about his obsession with Davina Claire, so that lowers his ranking on this list.

13.Cami O'Connell

The CW / Via tenor.com

Where to begin with Cami? She's a regular human who inherited magical "dark objects" and is always way too involved in vampire business. As Klaus' therapist (this seems like a loaded job — how much was she getting paid?), her character serves as a reminder of humanity. She then becomes the most annoying vampire of all time but has the redeeming factor of being Klaus' kryptonite.

14.Finn Mikaelson

The CW / Via tenor.com

Worst Mikaelson sibling hands down.

15.Davina Claire

The CW / Via tenor.com

Truthfully, this one is just a vibe. Davina is constantly complaining, even when others look out for her, she resurrects Mikael, and she is too worried about bringing her boyfriend back to life when there are bigger fish to fry. Insufferable.

16.Aurora de Martel

The CW / Via tenor.com

As Klaus' long-lost ex, Aurora returns to town to try and get her old flame back. She is still burned over their breakup centuries later and, when Klaus denies her, she tortures Cami and throws Rebekah into the ocean. She is not a girl's girl.

17.Esther Mikaelson

The CW / Via tenor.com

Esther wins the worst mother of the year award because, um, she cursed her children and made them vampires? This woman would not quit as she continued to come back to life and try all these morally questionable methods of getting her family back together.

18.Mikael Mikaelson

The CW / Via tenor.com

Perhaps he's merely bitter about his name, but this man was so mean!

19.Antoinette

The CW / Via tenor.com

When Elijah loses his memory and flees to France to become a pianist, he meets Antoinette, who seems like the perfect match. Turns out that her family is a bunch of radical vampire "purists" and she continues to defend them. Bottom of the list.

20.Lucien Castle

The CW / Via tenor.com

This guy was on a mad quest for power and it was not cute. Since regular vampirism wasn't enough for him, he rudely kidnapped a bunch of werewolves in order to turn himself into a super-hybrid vampire. In the end, this got him nowhere.

21.Aunt Dahlia

The CW / Via tenor.com

Dahlia went on a bender after her sister, Esther, said she didn't want to be a witch anymore. For some reason, this sent Dahlia into madness and she spent a thousand years keeping Freya locked away and then tried to steal baby Hope.

22.The Hollow

The CW / Via tenor.com

The Hollow has earned the title of being the absolute worst since she causes some of the most horrendous plotlines throughout the series. This ancient spirit out for revenge is responsible for Hope losing her parents, Elijah losing his memory, all of the siblings spending a season apart, and an assortment of other high-stakes drama.
