Thousands of Sinéad O' Connor's fans gathered on Tuesday, Aug. 8 for a public funeral procession in the late singer's hometown of Bray, County Wicklow, Ireland.

As reported by The Irish Times, approximately 3,000 fans were out paying their respects to O'Connor in the morning, lined up on Strand Road as the funeral cortege stopped at the late artist's home. The fans threw colorful flowers and sang "Nothing Compares 2 U" in unison, as the hearse passed by.

The coffin, seen through the cortege, was covered in light blue and white flowers, with the back of the car displaying a portrait of O'Connor.

A Volkswagen Transporter was driven in front of the cortege, which is said to have played Bob Marley & The Wailer's "Natural Mystic" and O'Connor's hits from its speakers, which were adorned with flowers and paper lanterns.

The van was also decorated with a rainbow flag and a Rastafarian flag. It's said to have been driven and organized by some of O'Connor's music industry friends.

After the public celebration of O'Connor's life, the artist was buried in a private Muslim funeral. According to the Daily Mail, U2 members Bono, The Edge, and Adam Clayton were in attendance, along with Bob Geldof.

Imam Dr. Umar Al-Qadri lead the prayer and one of O'Connor's brothers is said to have eulogized his sister, speaking about the singer's beginnings. The Daily Mail also noted that Bono is believed to have sung during the service.

O'Connor's funeral comes almost two weeks after she was found deceased in her London home. The singer's family confirmed the news of her death, noting in a statement at the time, “It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of our beloved Sinéad. Her family and friends are devastated and have requested privacy at this very difficult time.”

She is survived by her three children, Jake, Roisin, and Yeshua. Her son Shane predeceased her in 2022 at age 17.
