The Simpsons might be hailed for its impressive prognosticating qualities, but that's not to say it doesn't deal in the odd blunder from time to time.

Over on Twitter this week, one of the animated sitcom's many writers Josh Weinstein invited followers to hit him up with any major mistakes they could spot from across its 34 seasons.

Amidst a load of replies, Weinstein was shown a clip from the 1991 episode "Brush With Greatness," where Homer Simpson's buddy Carl Carlson (voiced by Hank Azaria) welcomes a donut delivery at the Nuclear Power Plant. Only...his voice is Lenny Leonard's, performed by Harry Shearer.

"In this episode, [Carl] speaks but you hear Lenny's voice? Was this a mistake or intentional? (apologies for the audio)," the fan tweeted.

Quick to address this gaffe, the writer explained: "Wow, that's clearly just a mistake. It's an early episode (Brush With Greatness) I wonder if they caught it originally? Most likely not, cause it could've been fixed right up to final mix simply by redubbing Carl correctly. Maybe Lenny and Carl hadn't appeared enough to notice?"

Back in 2021, the show's executive producer reflected on its legacy and the earlier episodes.

"I think everything we've done isn't perfect. I look back at things where I think, 'We could have done this funnier, or that funnier,'" he said. "But in general, the show has been so blessed and gone in such a great direction that I'm pretty much...I would just take what we did as opposed to any alternate future with us."

He continues, "When I watch the episodes from 30 years ago, of course, they're not perfect for today, but they hold up really well to me."

The Simpsons is available to stream on Disney+ now.
