Simone Rocha Crowned Chloe Sevigny in Her Signature Sparkling Hair Accessories
Suddenly, hair accessories are the styling staple to watch for fashion month. On full display stateside, Phil Oh’s darlings were dotted with puffy headbands and Margot Tenenbaum–inspired pins, while runways like Rodarte, Anna Sui, and Michael Kors peppered in floral fascinators, teeny-tiny bows, and head wraps. Now in London, the movement is already getting airtime via Ryan Lo’s floofy headpieces and Molly Godard’s simple black bands. Of course, this is nothing new for Simone Rocha.
Season after season, the designer has made a point to punctuate her gauzy, girly creations with black satin ribbons and twinkly jeweled barrettes. The latter was given undying street cred this evening when fashion’s favorite It girl, Chloë Sevigny, strolled down Rocha’s runway in a pearl-encrusted version that pulled her blonde waves back to reveal a knowing, mulberry-painted smile.
At the city’s Royal Academy of Arts, the industry-insider casting continued with artist Conie Valesse opening the show, her dark hair slicked off of her face and fastened with a faceted onyx clip that nodded at the beading on her sheer trench. The toast of Texas, up-and-comer Tess McMillan, wore one of the collection’s loopy tiaras over a black sequined bustier that lent a surprising edge to her pale-pink bubble-hemmed number. The same chunky crystal headpieces showed up in hues that played off of each model’s personal color palette, from sugary-sweet lilac to bright ruby and deep magenta. A little bit goth, always ethereal, Rocha has mastered the next wave of New Romantic fashion thanks to an ever present appreciation for above-the-neck baubles and semiprecious ornaments.
