Simone Biles Calls Out Incorrect Tweet, Sets Record Straight on Her Gold Medals: ‘This Is Awkward’

She may be “the G.O.A.T.,” but Simone Biles, 26, has never been one to brag. However, she will correct you if you don't get your facts straight.

Earlier this week, the official ESPNW Twitter (aka X) account shared an image of Biles, writing, “Seven years ago today, Simone Biles won the women’s vault final in Rio. That night, Biles became the first U.S. female gymnast to win three gold medals at one Olympics.”

However, turns out the account owner made a tiny mistake, and Biles responded to the since-deleted tweet, by quoting it and writing, “This is awkward……. I won 4 [woozy face emoji].”

The account quickly corrected their mistake, responding to Biles's quote tweet and writing, “Same page [goat emoji].” They also included emojis of four gold medals and attached another tweet of theirs, which featured the correct number: “Seven years ago today, Simone Biles won the women's vault final in Rio. That night, Biles became the first U.S. female gymnast to win three gold medals at one Olympics, and later added a fourth with a flawless floor routine!”

In addition to her four gold medals, Biles also won a bronze medal in 2016 for the balance beam. Then, at the 2020 Olympics, she took home a silver for the team final and a bronze for the balance beam.

Thanks to her seven Olympic prizes, Biles is tied with Shannon Miller as the American gymnast with the highest number of medals. But besides her Olympic feats, the Ohio native is also the most-decorated gymnast in the history of the Gymnastics World Championships (NBD).

Less than two weeks ago (and only four months after tying the knot with Jonathan Owens), Biles made her return to athletics, when she competed in the Core Hydration U.S. Classic, winning three gold medals for vault, floor and balance beam. This not only qualified her for the National Championship, but it also proved that Biles isn't going anywhere any time soon (and we could end up seeing her at the 2024 Summer Olympics in Paris).
