Siena Agudong on Her New Series "No Good Nick" and Bringing to Life the Teen Con Artist

Unlike her character on the newest Netflix series, No Good Nick, Siena Agudong does not enjoying playing tricks on others. Sure, she may have once tied a piece of string around her older sister's doorknob and connected it to her own door, preventing an exit for her sibling, but when it comes to elaborate cons and unexpected surprises, Siena prefers to leave those up to the schemers. However, for her role as Nicole aka Nick on the newest Netflix original series, the actor had to fully embrace being a little sneaky. Well, more than just a little.

For the show, Siena portrays the role of Nick, a 13-year-old student who convinces a family that she is their long-lost second cousin. Little does the family know, Nick is plotting her revenge, as she plans to get back at the family for once ruining her life. Teen Vogue won't spill all of the details on whether the character succeeds, but as you'll find in the first episode, not everything is as it seems — even when it comes to Nick.

Speaking with Teen Vogue, Siena explained that she's never taken on the role of a character that has so many layers. As she pointed out, Nick is initially presented as a young con artist eager to exact payback on an unassuming family for something yet unknown to the viewers, but as time goes on, you'll begin to see a softer side to the character. "It's very fun being Nick, and I'm actively growing as an actor because there are so many things I get to play around with that I haven't been able to before," she told Teen Vogue. "There's both drama and comedy on the series, and it touches on a lot of different situations that I've never experienced before."

Born and raised in Hawaii, Siena has starred in plenty of roles prior to No Good Nick. She played Natlee for three years on the Nickelodeon series Nicky, Ricky, Dicky & Dawn and later the matchmaking Sophia in Star Falls. On top of that, she has popped up in a couple of episodes of the TV Land comedy Teachers. When it came to learning about the role of Nick, Siena instantly had a connection.

"When I first got the breakdown, I remember realizing that her name was Nicole, and my middle name is Nicole, so I already told my mom, it’s perfect," she said. "I just remember thinking that’s she such a complex character. She uses so many tactics, so initially, when I first read the script, I was like here, she’s trying to appeal to their emotions, or here, she’s trying to act innocent and that was something that was really intriguing to me."

In order to really bring her role to life, Siena worked closely with some of her cast members. As she explained, her pretend television parents, Melissa Joan Hart and Sean Astin, provided her with IRL acting inspiration and tips. And while she might not be able to exactly relate to her character's mission of succeeding in pulling off the ultimate con, she has found some ways to identify with her character. "Nick and I react to certain situations similarly, especially when it comes to heartfelt moments," Siena said. "Sometimes she lets her guard down and becomes a real teenager, and I think in that way we are similar."

Although No Good Nick might revolve around Nicole's no good intentions, Siena advises viewers to keep an open mind, especially when it comes to her role. "It's important to notice that not everything is as it seems, and people can do the wrong things, even if it's for the right reasons," she said. "Don't judge someone based on your first impressions because there's someone different there when you actually get to know them."

As for who Nick really is? That's one mystery you'll have to figure out for yourself when you watch the show.
