Shuffle Board: Designer Brands Names President, Kirkland’s Taps Amy Sullivan as CEO

Kirkland’s

Specialty home décor and furniture retailer Kirkland’s has promoted Amy Sullivan to chief executive officer, effective Feb. 4. She succeeds interim CEO Ann Joyce, who will remain on the company’s board of directors.

Sullivan, who has been with the company for more than a decade, was promoted to president and chief operating officer last spring. As a member of the executive team, she has helped lead the organization through significant strategic repositioning initiatives, including refocusing marketing efforts and aligning product assortments to drive customer demand. Prior to Kirkland’s Home, she held senior-level positions for Express, Lands’ End, Kohl’s and JCPenney.

Designer Brands announced that Andrea O’Donnell has been named to the role of Brands president and executive vice president of Designer Brands, effective Jan. 29. As Brands president, O’Donnell will be globally responsible for Designer Brands’ full suite of owned and licensed brands, which includes Keds, Vince Camuto, Topo Athletic, Hush Puppies, Le Tigre, Lucky Brand, Jessica Simpson, Kelly & Katie, Crown Vintage, Mix No. 6 and more. She will be responsible for all aspects of the company’s brand portfolio, from design and sourcing to sales, both wholesale and DTC. O’Donnell will report directly to Designer Brands’ chief executive officer, Doug Howe. She currently sits on the board of directors for Fashionphile.

Boohoo

Online fashion group Boohoo announced that Shaun McCabe has stepped down from his role as chief financial officer by mutual agreement and with immediate effect. He has also stepped down from the board with immediate effect. Stephen Morana has been appointed to the board and named CFO, effective Feb. 19.

Tilly’s

Specialty retailer Tilly’s announced that Ed Thomas has retired from his position as president and chief executive officer and as a director of the company. Hezy Shaked, co-founder and executive chairman of the board of directors, has been appointed to serve as the company’s interim president and CEO until a successor is named. As the company’s co-founder and former president and CEO, Shaked has an in-depth knowledge and understanding of all facets of the company’s business and has developed extensive professional relationships during his over 40 years of experience in the retail industry.

Five Below

Value retailer Five Below announced the appointment of Karen Bowman to its board of directors, effective Jan. 24. Bowman is currently the Deloitte global boardroom and executive program leader and the Deloitte U.S. vice chairman and national sector leader for the automotive industry. She has more than 30 years of professional and consulting experience across a broad range of industries, with a specific focus on the consumer industry.

Academy Sports + Outdoors

Academy Sports + Outdoors announced the appointment of Robert Howell to the role of senior vice president and chief supplier chain officer. In this role, Howell will oversee supply chain operations, distribution centers, and domestic and international logistics. Howell will join Academy in February and report to Sam Johnson, president of Academy. Howell brings nearly 30 years of supply chain, distribution and logistics experience to Academy. Previously, he spent nearly 20 years with Sysco Corporation, a wholesale restaurant food distributor, where he performed various supply chain, logistics and merchandising leadership roles. Howell succeeds Sherry Harriman, who recently left Academy to pursue other opportunities.

LIM College

LIM College announced the appointment of a new chair and the addition of two new members to its board of directors. Patty Farmer, currently vice chair of the LIM College board of directors, has been appointed chair. She succeeds William Borner. She is a successful entrepreneur who launched her first venture—a luxury maternity boutique that grew to four locations—after graduating from LIM.

New to the LIM College board of directors are higher education leader Dario Cortes, Ph.D., and retail industry veteran Denise Vujovich. With more than four decades in higher education, Cortes has served in leadership positions with a variety of colleges and universities. Vujovich is an experienced retail industry executive with a career that has spanned more than four decades and has included leadership positions with May Merchandising Company, Macy’s Midwest and Claire’s stores.
