Megyn Kelly’s Hair Evolution – From Flowing Mane to Short Hair, Don’t Care

Longtime Fox News anchor Megyn Kelly made a big change when she decided to leave the network for NBC, where she’ll host a daily daytime show and a Sunday night news show. Throughout her almost 14-year career in broadcast journalism, though, she’s made plenty of changes to her look too — primarily to her hair.

Kelly made headlines for chopping her flowing blond mane to shoulder length shortly after moderating the first Republican presidential debate in August 2015. In April 2016, she told People it felt liberating to lop it all off. “We change when we get in a different phase,” she said, noting that she was feeling stronger.

In 2003, the young reporter (then Megyn Kendall) was an anchor for ABC affiliate WJLA-TV. During that era, she sported a straight and serious shoulder-length bob with a center part. Her tresses were the same shade of cornsilk blond she’s become known for. From there, she grew out her impossibly glossy strands as she embarked on her career with Fox News in 2004. The early 2000s saw a lot of flat-ironing for Kelly — and for pretty much all of us.

She began parting her hair to the side and took a shine to curling irons, sporting big, bouncy waves on shows like Special Report with Brit Hume and Weekend Live. When she began hosting her own two-hour program, America Live, in 2010, she gave her hair a healthy, chin-length chop and often wore it curly.

By the time she started hosting her own show, The Kelly File, her hair had grown out yet again, reaching midback. It was a youthful look for Kelly, and she opted more often for straight locks with long, side-swept bangs. And when she left her show and network, in an emotional farewell, she was sporting her short style, which she likes to wear slicked back away from her face.

As she said when she first cut it, “There’s something about putting your whole face out there that is just empowering: Here I am — have at it.”
