I’m of the opinion that ice cream is a year-round treat, but I’ll admit that it hits differently during the summer. It’s just so refreshing when you’ve been out in the heat for so long. Now that that time of year has arrived, you can bet that I’ll be going to the store at least once a week to grab a pint, if I’m not making the trek to an actual ice-cream shop. Admittedly, my love for frozen desserts does end up costing me a decent amount of money, especially between May and August. That’s why I’m about to invest in an ice-cream maker for my kitchen.

We’ve tried a number of ice-cream makers here at The Kitchn, ranging in size and price. Our editors have recommended everything from DASH’s $22 gadget to Ninja’s $200, 11-in-one Creami machine. One option that falls right between the two is Cuisinart’s $100 Pure Indulgence maker (which can whip up yogurt and sorbet, too!). One of our contributors, who’s owned it for years, says it churns out the “silkiest homemade dessert [she’s] ever had.” Find out more below!

What Is the Cuisinart Pure Indulgence Yogurt, Sorbet & Ice Cream Maker?

This stainless steel machine is the gold standard of ice-cream makers if you’re not looking to spend hundreds. It makes up to 2 quarts at a time, using an integrated motor, automatic mixing paddle, and an insulated bowl that you place in the freezer beforehand. After tossing in all of the ingredients — there’s a recipe book for guidance — it’ll make a delicious batch of ice cream in about 25 to 30 minutes. Once all of the main components are added, you can use the large ingredient spout for mix-ins. When you aren’t using the machine (though you’ll probably leave it on your counter all summer), it’s compact enough to stash away in a cabinet. It’s roughly 8 inches long, 8 inches wide, and 11 inches tall. The parts are all removable and can go into the dishwasher for an easy cleanup.

“I’ve tried many ice-cream makers, from the most basic manual hand cranks to nearly instantaneous whizzing blender-style machines,” Lizzy, one of our contributors, wrote. “But nothing beats the one-speed automatic churning of the Cuisinart if you’re after a super-creamy texture that doesn’t require elbow grease or babysitting, and if you’re looking to get experimental with ice cream flavors.”

What QVC Shoppers Are Saying

Average Rating: 4.7/5

“I just returned a Ninja CREAMi Deluxe and decided to buy the Quisinart 2qt Frozen yogurt & ice-cream maker. This is the best and quick way of making ice cream. You’re not doing a lot of different steps either! You really don’t have to refrigerate or freeze your mix before putting it in the ice-cream maker. I used a recipe similar to the one in the book and it was a delicious vanilla ice cream!” — Indiana Camper

“We’ve had Cuisinart’s older version of this, but the new one is much faster, colder and better! We keep it on our counter and are never out of ice cream. The only drawback is the bowl has to go in to the freezer! But the ice cream is worth it.” — Anonymous

“Purchased this to make ice cream at home. So easy! Love it! Just mix your ingredients, put into the chilled cylinder and turn on. Ready in 30 minutes!” — Suzqwolfe

There’s no doubt that homemade ice cream always tastes better than the kind you get from the store — you can make it exactly how you like it, and a huge plus is that it makes for such a fun summer activity. Stock is low at QVC, so I recommend grabbing it sooner rather than later. And don’t forget to add the $10-off code (NEWQ10) at checkout!
