Shipstern Bluff Went Off and Matahi Drollet Was Charging

Tim Bonython gets around. He may well be the most well-traveled videographer around, at least when it comes to waves of the giant genre. This time around, he ended up in Tasmania. Again.

It’s a place he knows well — he’s got the footage to prove it — but it’s clear that he’s not getting tired of it. When it’s big, Bonython will be there. Unless somewhere else is bigger.

He linked up with Teahupo’o legend Matahi Drollet, who wanted to try something new.

“When you go to Tahiti to shoot the world famous Teahupo’o, the best surfer in the lineup is local lad Matahi Drollet,” Bonython wrote. “But when you take him to a new country that he’s never been to, to surf a wave that is so different to what he’s used to, then you know this is going to be a very interesting story.”

You’ve probably figured it out already, but the wave in the film is none other than Shipstern Bluff. Watch this thing quick, though, because apparently Bonython is taking it off YouTube in two short days.
