Crow has been engaged three times.

Sheryl Crow has been a mainstay in country music and rock-n-roll since getting her start in the early 1990s. The rocker from Missouri began her career as a backing vocalist for Michael Jackson before being discovered as a star in her own right. At the same time, her love life became tabloid fodder as the “It Girl” on the scene, dating famous actors, musicians, and athletes in the ‘90s and ‘00s, and even getting engaged three times.

Let’s take a walk down memory lane and revisit Sheryl Crow's dating history.

Is Sheryl Crow in a relationship?

While the 60-year-old rocker has had a few notable and high-profile relationships over the years, she’s currently single. Crow has always wanted to be a mother and when men failed her, she decided to start her family as a single mother. "I had to let go of this picture I'd always painted about my life, about how it was going to be set up with a husband, a house, and all that," she told Health. The singer adopted two sons: Wyatt (adopted in 2007) and Levi (adopted in 2010), and has since made parenting her focus. The young family primarily lives in Nashville, out of the public eye. As of 2019, Crow confirmed she did not have a partner, but “hoped that would change soon.”

Has Sheryl Crow been married?

Sheryl Crow has never officially walked down the aisle, but she’s come close a few times. Crow has been engaged three times, though her only public engagement was with former beau and world-renowned cyclist Lance Armstrong, which ended in 2006. As for her other two engagements, she has never explicitly named names, but doesn’t harbor much resentment about the broken engagements. In fact, she has a more traditional view of the entire endeavor, telling ABC News, “It's better to have three broken engagements than three divorces.”

Despite some bad luck, Crow still isn’t against the idea of marriage; in fact, she confessed that she would prefer to skip the frills next time. “I think I would skip the engagement part [next] time, having been engaged a couple times. If I was that close to getting married, I would just go do it,” she told PEOPLE

Crow has been open that parenting comes first, and that she wants to create a stable home life for her children. “It's trickier when you have kids, to want to walk down the aisle,” she said to PEOPLE. She also told The Guardian in 2019 that she had “made a pact with myself that my kids would know anybody I was involved with as a friend first. They weren't gonna wake up and find somebody sleeping in their house or feel abandoned because the relationship fell apart.”

Is Sheryl Crow dating Lance Armstrong?

No, Sheryl Crow isn’t currently dating the disgraced former world champion cyclist Lance Armstrong, though they did have a whirlwind romance in the early ‘00s. After meeting at a charity event in 2003, Crow and Armstrong (10 years her junior) dated for two years before getting engaged in 2005. The former Tour de France champion popped the question in a manner straight out of a romance film: by proposing on a boat in Sun Valley, Idaho. Recounting the story to Oprah Winfrey, Armstrong said, “The boat ran out of gas in the middle of the lake, and so I thought, 'You know, we're stuck here. I may as well ask her now.'” Armstrong didn’t have a ring on him, but won her over with his spontaneous act of love.

However, less than a year later, they called it quits amidst her breast cancer diagnosis. After the breakup, Crow told Good Morning America that the couple “really loved each other a lot, and still love each other a lot,” and debunked rumors that he left her during her illness.

Is Sheryl Crow dating Eric Clapton?

Sheryl Crow isn’t dating the legendary musician Eric Clapton right now, but they did have a brief fling in the late ‘90s. Clapton, who is 17 years her senior and was previously married to George Harrison’s ex-wife Pattie Boyd, is believed to have inspired Crow’s hit song “My Favorite Mistake,” which chronicles a relationship with a cheating boyfriend. Crow never confirmed nor denied this fan theory, but the two remain friends—and Clapton is featured on her 2019 album “Threads.”

Who Else Has Sheryl Crow Dated?

Aside from Armstrong and Clapton, Crow’s other high-profile relationship was with actor Owen Wilson. After meeting in 1999 on the set of The Minus Man, the pair reportedly dated for two years and their relationship is memorialized by her 2002 song “Safe and Sound” on the album C’mon C’mon, which she admitted was about him in the album’s liner notes.

After Wilson, Crow was also involved romantically with The Good Wifeactor Josh Charles, though their relationship was also short-lived. He accompanied her to the 2003 Grammys, but their relationship ended shortly thereafter.

Fans have long speculated that Crow dated fellow musician Kid Rock after their 2002 collaboration on the country ballad “Picture” and again on the 2011 song “Collide,” but both parties have vehemently denied any official romance between them.

Crow remains single right now and has reflected on her dating history with men in the spotlight. “I have always gone out with guys who were highly successful, which would seem like it would put me at an equal level," she told Good Housekeeping. "But what ends up happening is that one of you becomes smaller—and it was always me. I do think that sometimes in order for one person's light to shine, everyone else has to dim theirs.”
