Family of Sherwood farm turning into event site for Arkansas eclipse

QUITMAN, Ark. – As many people and places gear up for various things to do for the total solar eclipse, one Arkansas family living the farm life said they’re opening their gates to visitors to experience the big event on their land.

Kendra Benson, a member of the family at Sherwood Farm in Quitman, said they’re turning their focus from farm ground toward the Sherwood sky for the eclipse on April 8.

“You got this beautiful view of the sky away from it all,” Benson said.

For the first time in close to two decades, since her family has owned the land, Benson explained they decided to let travelers coming to the Natural State come onto the property to enjoy activities on their farm and the big open sky, giving a “perfect” view of the eclipse.

“We have had some (traveling) from Alabama, some from Tennessee, and South Carolina,” she said, adding that families will experience, “horse rides, we have a barn where they can play lots of sports like volleyball, horseshoes, fishing and you can bring your ATV and ride all over the farm.”

Benson said the activities are endless, as they will also have pickleball and basketball available, along with roping. She also said it was their family bond they hope to share with others.

“We are family-oriented. I have two kids and my mom has seven kids. We love kids,” she explained. “We really wanted people to come and see the farm to see what a great place we have here.”

It’s not too late for locals or travelers to book a stay at the farm. Benson said visitors can pitch a tent or sleep in an RV to stay overnight, especially if hotels are booked.
