It's that time of the year again where the design community comes together to point out the color trends for the following year, and if one thing's for certain, 2022 is shaping out to be the year for going green. The latest brand jumping on the verdant train happens to be leading paint company Sherwin-Williams who just announced Evergreen Fog as their 2022 Color of the Year. The nourishing gray-green shade ushers in a rejuvenating sense of contentment while subtly referencing the healing characteristics of nature.

“Evergreen Fog is a sophisticated wash of color for spaces that crave a subtle yet stunning statement shade,” says Sue Wadden, director of color marketing at Sherwin-Williams. “Evergreen Fog inspires us to begin again and is a great choice for modern interiors and exteriors."

A clever, mid-tone green, Evergreen Fog adapts to numerous spaces both in and outside the home and countless design styles. Its soothing qualities pair flawlessly with natural textures and materials such as rattan chairs seen in an outdoor dining room or as the backdrop of an art collection lining the entryway. Wadden also recommends pairing the hue with metals such as warm brass of a light gold for a more glamorous look.

As for a corresponding palette, the Sherwin-Williams team identified two groupings that would compliment Evergreen Fog:

Organic Neutrals: Shoji White, Accessible Beige, and Woven Wicker SW 9104

Luxurious Tonals: Urbane Bronze, Über Umber, and Bakelite Gold

In addition, Sherwin-Williams' sister company Valspar released their 2022 Colors of the Year which consists of 12 unique shades that help evoke comfort and warmth. Valspar chose each of the hues for their calming qualities and abilities to energize a space. Valspar's 12 2022 Colors of the Year are: Blanched Thyme, Gilded Linen, Delightful Moon, Lilac Lane, Mountain River, Orchid Ash, Grey Suit, Subtle Peach, Rustic Oak, Sunset Curtains, Country Charm, and Fired Earth.
