Sherryl Woods fans may be in the thick of watching Season 3 of Sweet Magnolias, the hit Netflix show based on her books. But that doesn't mean they're not still pining for more of the Hallmark adaptation of her Chesapeake Shores series, which ended after six seasons in 2022.

"That was my first TV baby, so I wanted more, too," Woods told Parade in a call to discuss Sweet Magnolias this week. "And we were hopeful that we would be able to do some more but it didn’t happen. It’s very sad."

According to the author, she and executive producer Dan Paulson had been in talks to revive the show in some way, possibly in a longer-form capacity. "[We] continued to talk about whether there was someplace else or something else we could do with Chesapeake Shores, whether it was a few movies here and there, or trying to do something with the series," Woods said.

Of course, the tragic death of Treat Williams, who played main character Mick O'Brien, complicated those talks—and was, above all, a heartbreaking loss. The actor died in June after a motorcycle accident at the age of 71.

"He was just a genuinely nice guy," Woods says. "He would, out of the blue, call up about something or other. I think the last time I had spoken to him in any depth was when he called on my birthday last year and we caught up. He meant a lot to me. It meant a lot to me to be able to have somebody like him in that show...losing Treat was a huge blow for all of us."
