Shelter Cat's Look of 'Rage' Has People Ready to Adopt Him

If you're a Millennial or early Gen Z'er like I am, you probably remember Grumpy Cat. This Internet sensation made headlines--and even became one of the very first memes--after her owner posted a picture of her permanently grouchy facial expression on Reddit in 2012. While her expression was due to her breed, her underbite, and feline dwarfism, there have been plenty of other unhappy-looking kitties catching folks' attention since then.

When one of these universally loved 'grumpy cats' found himself at an animal shelter in Chicago, Illinois, he quickly captured the attention of his caretakers. And after a viral TikTok video posted on December 23, he caught the attention of many potential adopters, too! Clearly this grumpy cat is also a popular cat.

LMAO! This angry-looking kitty named Turisimo looks like he has a lot to say to the person behind the camera, and that expression really does say it all. He is not happy about his situation, and I don't blame him one bit. Living in an animal shelter isn't nearly as great as living in a home with a loving owner or family, and he has every right to be angry about being in the shelter instead.

Fortunately, his anger-invoking life in @nawshumanesocietymokena was made a bit better thanks to kind and fun-loving shelter workers and volunteers. But here's the best news: this video got him adopted, too! We'll never know if the person who commented with a question about adoption applications and pet adoption fees is the same person who snatched him up, but he's officially off the humane society's adoption page!

Animals' Moods Are Not Their Personalities

As entertaining as Turisimo's angry facial expression may be, it's important to know that he's probably not a truly grumpy cat. In the same way that people experience a range of moods and emotions throughout every day, an animal's mood does not coincide with their demeanor 24/7. This angry-looking kitty could be the most affectionate cat out there!

Plus--living in a shelter can be stressful, too, so this rescue cat may just need some peace and quiet to decompress. I get it! His forever person will get to see his true colors in the coming weeks, and I have a feeling it's going to go purr-fectly. Shelter pets like Turisimo may need extra time and patience to fully come into their own, but once they're comfortable, it'll be the time of their lives.
