Shel Silverstein, who wrote such iconic books as the Giving Tree and Where the Sidewalk Ends, once lived in a whimsical houseboat docked in Sausalito, California. Now, the beloved illustrator and children's author's former floating home is on the market for $783,000.

Located in Waldo Point Harbor, the 1,200-square-foot houseboat was originally a World War ll Balloon Barge, according to the listing. The two-story home has two bedrooms, one bathroom, and even a fireplace. The main level contains a great room with seating on raised platforms along the walls. This room leads into an open-concept kitchen and dining room with remodeled skylights. These, plus an open-beam ceiling and many windows, make for plenty of natural light on the main floor.

Stairs from the dining area lead to the lower level, which features a family room in between the two bedrooms. In the smaller bedroom, a bed the hangs from the ceiling. The master bedroom has a washing machine and dryer next to the door and an elevated area with seating towards the back of the room.

On the dock in front of the houseboat, there is space for cozy seating, a table, and potted plants. Many of the colorful neighboring houseboats along the dock have these along with bicycles and grills in front of their floating homes.
