If you haven’t seen the TikTok trend where users talk to their hypothetical ancestors, check it out now. The wholesome trend started going viral this week and showcases the similarities or differences between today’s lifestyle and the past. From videos bonding over staining hands with henna to complaining about small pockets in women’s fashion, there’s so much goodness there.
Because I have major FOMO, I immediately thought about what TikTok I would make. Then I remembered the sheer white midi dress I was wearing. With a high neck and ruffle puff sleeves, it looks like something straight out of Victorian-era queen Samantha Parkington’s wardrobe.
While I originally bought The Caroline Nap Dress to lean into the Victorian ghost/old money aesthetic/ultra-feminine/comfortable trends (phew), I was thrilled to find out that I was ahead of TikTok. I’ve been honoring my WASP-y ancestors of yore every time I don this perfect spring and summer midi dress.
Give me a candle and a hair bow, and this dress transforms me into a mysterious and alluring Victorian woman, but, like, chic.

Available in sizes XXS – 2XL, the admittedly shapeless dress looks amazing on everyone. Made of 100% cotton, the sheer white Swiss dot fabric offers a breezy yet polished feel. The sleeves feature loose smocking and no elastic so that you can frolic, sleep, work and play with ease. I’m pretty confident every American Girl doll, from Addy to Samantha, would approve.
As with everybody, my weight has fluctuated throughout the years, and my closet ranges between four to five different sizes. I adore that The Caroline Nap Dress has been consistently comfortable and adjusted with my weight, making this dress an excellent investment piece.
Style note: The Caroline Nap Dress is fully sheer. If that’s not your thing, you can definitely layer it atop a neutral slip.
