Who Is Shayne from 'Claim to Fame' Related To?: An Investigation

Step aside Sherlock Holmes! This season, I will be doing my darnedest to figure out the secret identities of the Claim to Fame contestants. The show's premise is simple enough: twelve contestants enter a Hollywood mansion, each is related to a A-list celebrity. The person who can keep their relative's identity a secret for the longest wins!

As I'm watching along each week, I'll be attempting to piece together the clues and determine the relative of each contestant, cataloging the information we learn along the way. Spoilers for all episodes that have aired. Here's everything we have learned about Shayne and my predictions:

Who is Shayne's Claim to Fame celebrity relative?

ABC/Gizelle Hernandez

ABC/Gizelle Hernandez

Episode 2

Shayne began the episode describing how she'd once visited Michael Jackson's estate, which had her fellow contestants returning to the Janet Jackson theory. However, once her clue from Episode 1 was deciphered to be "King coming to America and plays Buckwheat," the house quickly realized she's actually related to Eddie Murphy.

Later in the challenge we learned her relative was born in 1961, the year Murphy was born.

Episode 1

Two Truths and a Lie:

 • Relative: Father (Truth)

 • Occupation: Musician (Lie)

 • Award: Grammy (Truth)

We don't get any information from Shayne herself, but when Travis wins the talent show, he chooses her clue. While Travis didn't initially figure out the meaning of the cypher, he and Jane eventually worked it out to be a reference to Eddie Murphy's film Coming to America and a character he played on SNL.

The other contestants' best guess

Eddie Murphy

Based on the clue from the wine cellar, everyone in the house is now fairly certain that Shayne is Eddie Murphy's daughter. This could make her an easy target, but as we learned in Season 1 with Simone Biles' sister, just because you've been identified doesn't mean you're immediately going home.

Parade's prediction for celebrity relative

Eddie Murphy

For all the reasons listed above, I'm certain it's Eddie Murphy.

Claim to Fame airs Monday nights at 8 p.m. ET on ABC.
