Shawn Mendes reveals the most challenging part about being on tour (Exclusive)

There's good news for fans of Shawn Mendes -- thanks to the singer's new interactive fan experience, "This is Shawn" presented by Verizon, fans can feel closer than ever to the to 21-year-old artist.

The immersive, multi-room experience, located in New York City's Chelsea neighborhood, offers fans the opportunity to take a peak behind the scenes of how Shawn, a singer and songwriter by nature, creates his music. From "visiting" Malibu beaches to Shawn's recording studio and feeling like they're up on stage in front of a sold-out stadium audience, fans will get a glimpse into his life, as his voice narrates the experience. Plus, Verizon will have special opportunities for members of its loyalty program, Verizon Up.

Shawn is currently on tour for his 2018 self-titled album, but we caught up with the superstar to get the inside scoop on what fans can expect at "This is Shawn" and what it's really like being on an international tour.

AOL: How did the idea behind your new fan experience “This is Shawn” come about?

Shawn Mendes: We wanted to find a way to give fans an experience they've never had before. When I started working with Verizon, we quickly realized that this idea was the perfect way to create something that fans would love and that digs deeper into things they may not have seen.

What are you most excited for your fans to experience within the interactive space?

We created so many moments that will make fans feel like they are really getting to take an in person look at my creative process. I can't wait for them to experience it.

What is the most rewarding part and the most challenging part of being on an international tour?

I would say the most rewarding part is seeing fans every night having some of the best nights of their year and just singing their hearts out. Being able to be a part of that is so special to me. I'd say the only challenge is that it definitely gets tiring, but I really feed off of the energy of the fans every night.

You're known to stop and talk to fans and engage with them mid-concert, what is the most memorable thing a fan has said to you?

It's so hard to pick the most memorable one thing, but I will say that just hearing fans saying how that one moment can make their day, is why I am so driven to always be so personal with my fans.

What is the first thing you do after a show?

I usually have an ice cold towel and just refresh myself from the workout! Haha.
