  • Shawn wants others to follow their dreams.

It's hard to deny Shawn Mendes's talent. He can sing only one note and still have a stadium full of people crying from bliss. But, it wasn't always like that. Before Shawn was selling out concerts, he was posting song covers on Vine and YouTube. Though, Shawn's family always supported his dreams, the kids in his high school apparently didn't take his ambitions as seriously. Now, Shawn is opening up about how it felt to get bullied. In an emotionally inspirational note he posted to his Instagram, Shawn encouraged others to follow their dreams, despite how they may be perceived by others.

In a new photo posted to his IG, Shawn is sitting at a piano staring at an arena full of fans. In the post, he reflects on how people made him feel while he was in 9th grade. One day after he posted a song cover to Instagram, some guys at school mocked him by screaming "Sing for me, Shawn. Sing for me." Shawn revealed that the incident made him feel "like a joke," but that he was lucky he had friends and parents who encouraged him to keep going after his dreams.

In the post, Shawn also encouraged others "to do what makes them feel alive," even if someone else thinks it's stupid. "I’m writing this not only to the 15 year old kid who’s scared to follow their heart because of what people might say but also to the 50 year old who may be doing the exact same thing," he wrote.

Shawn's post also received support from other artists, like Camila Cabello and Niall Horan. "Couldn’t relate or agree with something more If I tried... we had the last laugh 🤟🤟," Niall wrote.
