Shawn Mendes Confirmed He Is in a Relationship
Shawn Mendes has officially broken his silence regarding his love life.
The singer-songwriter caught up with some fans during the soundcheck ahead of his Mohegan Sun concert on Friday, August 30, where he was asked about his rumored relationship with Camila Cabello. “You’ve said you’ve never been in love. Has that changed recently?” asked a fan, according to a video posted to Twitter.
As noted by Us Weekly, Shawn didn’t exactly give a concrete answer — but his response certainly cleared up a few questions nonetheless. “Honestly, I wanna…talk to you guys about this stuff but it’s not just me in the relationship,” he said. “There’s another person involved and I can’t say things that I feel. It’s not just me deciding you know?”
Though he didn’t mention Camila by name, it seems safe to assume that’s who he meant. The two musicians have been the subject of dating rumors for years — and the gossip only intensified after their super-steamy collab “Señorita” was released earlier this summer. Shawn and Camila have also been spotted out and about engaging in PDA, and Camila even professed her love for her co-collaborator on Shawn’s birthday, describing him as a “magic human.”
Most recently, Shawn and Camila took their chemistry to the MTV VMAs stage, where they performed their hit duet much to the delight of fans (and certain Jonas Brothers) everywhere. In days since, Camila began teasing a new project, with fans concluding that her new musical era is about love.
We’ll have to wait and see if Shawn and Camila confirm their relationship in a more explicit way; for now, it seems as though both stars are happy — and that's what truly counts.
