Shawn Mendes Cancels Concert in Brazil Due to Illness

“It breaks my heart to do this, but my doctors told me I cannot perform tonight.”

Shawn Mendes is getting some much-needed rest.

The singer-songwriter recently announced on social media that he was diagnosed with laryngitis and a sinus infection, causing him to have to cancel his Saturday, November 30 performance in São Paulo, Brazil. “It breaks my heart to do this, but my doctors told me I cannot perform tonight or it would risk long-term damage to my voice,” Shawn wrote on Twitter. “I love you all so much and apologize from the bottom of my heart as I wish I could be there on stage tonight. I promise I wlil make it up to you next time I’m in South America. Te Amo.”

In a follow-up tweet, Shawn added: “I’m so sorry.”

Fortunately, the replies are filled with understanding comments from fans, many of whom are encouraging the singer to put his health first. “I want you to know that it’s okay, it happens and we still love you the same!” wrote one fan who had waited in line for his São Paulo concert. Another fan assured Shawn that he had nothing to apologize for, adding: “You are human, too. You get sick. You deserve a day off, rest your vocal cords. We love you endlessly and support any decisions you make. Take care of yourself please. ❤️”

As both fans noted, it’s important to remember that everyone gets sick from time to time, and it’s crucial to prioritize physical and emotional health — and that goes for celebs, too.

According to Shawn’s website, his next tour stop will be on December 3, in Rio de Janeiro. We hope Shawn feels better soon — and it’s clear that he has the support of his fans at every turn.
