Shaun White Breaks Down in Tears as He Makes History with Third Olympic Gold Medal

Shaun White may be a four-time Olympian, but even he couldn’t contain his emotions when he made history with his third Olympic victory.

Last night, the snowboarder formerly known as the “Flying Tomato” took home the gold medal for the men’s halfpipe competition at the 2018 Olympic Winter Games in PyeongChang, South Korea. White also won first place during the 2006 and 2010 Olympics, so this “W” makes him the first person to secure three gold medals in the sport.

Following his performance, he broke down in tears as he waved to the crowd and embraced his family. Although the snowboarder begrudgingly placed fourth during the 2014 Olympics in Sochi, White knew he was ready to return to the top of the winner’s podium.

“Honestly, I just felt it inside [that] I had it. I knew I had to put it down. It’s so hard to describe,” he told NBC.

Well deserved, indeed.
