Sharon Salvation Army holds a grand reopening of its thrift store
Apr. 19—SHARON — The Salvation Army thrift store had a grand reopening day Friday after it had closed due to a malfunction with its boiler.
"They have a few things to offer the people to allow them to go over and see the newly updated thrift shop," said board member Pamela McKoy. "There's new prices, new items and there's a lot of great finds in there."
McKoy said a lot of hard work has been put into updating the thrift store.
From clothes, to shoes, sports equipment, furniture, mattresses and even a holiday room, the thrift shop has it all, said Capt. Michele Watt, director of the Salvation Army post.
"We have everything," Watt said. "As far as donations go, we don't turn away anything."
Watt said the thrift store supports all of the programs at the Sharon Salvation Army.
"This is very important to us," Watt said. "This supports our food bank, our senior program, overhead and youth programs."
Since Watt took over in July, she is trying to bring back more programs that were shut down due to the pandemic.
"We're very interested in finding out what the community needs and finding out where the Salvation Army fits in this community," Watt said. "Anything we can do to help."
Thrift store hours are 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. Monday through Friday and 9 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. Saturdays. Donations can be brought to the back door at the store at 660 Fisher Hill St. in Sharon. The Salvation Army is in the former Gamble Elementary School.
"We wanted to do a grand reopening because the store has been here for a very long time and I'm surprised at how many people don't know it's here," Watt said.
